AI and No-code
2 min readAs we start 2025, I’ve been reflecting on how dramatically the product development world has changed in the last few years, in particular 2024. For the past two years, I’ve been deep diving into AI and no-code tools and refreshing myself on the craft of building and I’m seeing dramatic shifts in how products are built and how that will affect people working in tech and hold some thoughts about the future.
The barriers to entry to creating a product have practically disappeared. It was traditionally considered a risk as you would require at least a developer, designer, and sales or marketing. Each person played a vital role, and occassionally, you would have some of these roles merged as a single person. The risk was high because building a product requires coding knowledge, a skill that requires obtaining over a lengthly period of time either self taught or school etc. Only a technical person would be able to spawn a product like magic which meant not only did it require other peoples skills if you weren’t a dev yourself, it also required their time (regardless how convenient frameworks and libraries have made it easier for devs to build).
With AI tools now able to generate code, the time aspect of building is becoming a non-issue for developers. No-code tools have opened a whole world of possibilities for no-devs, and can be less reliant on developers.
Obviously, starting a new product with the tools available is going to be different than working on products with existing baggage but this paradigm shift is still true: why prototype when creating a real thing is just as quick, why wait for a developer to build it when you can do it yourself
One of the more interesting things I’ve noticed is within the Indie hacking space, where I’ve seen so many solopreneaurs emerge creating their own products. People backgrounds in marketing, to design, to of course developers also, but also people who have no background in any of this too.
AI and no-code has opened up a world for people, it’s mind-blowing when you think about it. I think there’s literally no better time to build because you’re not bound by something that is dependent of others.
